Certified Firefighter

Hardeeville Fire Department is accepting applications for the position of Certified Firefighter. This position is compensated at $10.34hr plus benefits.

This application period will be open until 04/29/16 at 5pm.

Minimum qualifications:

  • IFSAC Firefighter I or equivalent
  • EMR- Emergency Medical Responder
  • NIMS: 100, 200, 700, 800

Preferred qualifications:

  • IFSAC Firefighter II
  • EMT-Basic
  • Two years full-time employment as a firefighter

  • Must be 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license with no suspensions in the last 3 years
  • Out of state applicants MUST submit a 10 year driving record with their application

Building Official

General Purpose of the Job
Under the direction of the Planning Director, plans, coordinates, and manages the operations and activities of the building department; oversees the enforcement of all building related ordinances, codes, and regulations; performs plan checks; manages and participates in building inspections; responds to building/code enforcement inquiries and complaints; and supervises assigned personnel. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and approving all permit applications for building code compliance
  • Performs plan reviews
  • Determines code and ordinance interpretations regarding building matters
  • Performs inspections on residential, commercial, industrial buildings and other structures, including electrical, mechanical, gas, heating and air conditioning, plumbing installation, and other components during and after construction to ensure that work meets codes
  • Enforces City ordinances
  • Addresses and resolves complaints
  • Perform field inspections on new and existing buildings and structures to enforce conformance to building, flood damage prevention, approved plans, specifications and standards and applicable codes
  • Responsible for administering, interpreting and enforcing the International Building Codes and Flood Damage Prevention Code and other City ordinances and regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a building official or equivalent as an architect engineer, inspector or any combination experience equal to the above
  • Oral and written communication skills including speaking and presentations at various meetings and problem resolution a must
  • Computer skills including current Microsoft Office Suite and department related software
  • Must possess ability to positively interact with staff, contractors, architects, engineers, governmental entities and the general public
  • Must have current Certified Building Official Certification (CBO) or obtain certification within one year of hire date
  • Must maintain valid certification
  • Must possess the Certified Floodplain Managers Certification or obtain the certification within one year of hire date
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license

Plans Examiner 

General Purpose of the Job
Under general supervision from the Building Official, performs complex technical duties in enforcing construction codes to ensure public safety and health.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Examines plans, blueprints and drawings for new construction, alterations and repairs for code compliance
  • Examines plans in particular for Building, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Energy and Accessibility related codes and regulations
  • Discusses problems and solutions with appropriate parties
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of Building, Zoning, State and Federal regulations concerning building issues
  • Considerable knowledge of construction plans and inspections and specifications
  • Thorough knowledge of architectural and engineering principles, terminology, and analysis
  • Knowledge of approved methods and materials used in construction and the ability to analyze and interpret complex construction plans and specifications
  • Knowledge of how to conduct plan reviews and inspections to determine code and ordinance compliance
  • Considerable knowledge of local and state laws and regulations concerning the issuance of building permits
  • Multiple certifications a plus – Building, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing. All 4 disciplines are encouraged.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate with extensive experience as a plans examiner or commercial builder with electrical and mechanical background
  • Must have thorough knowledge of ICC Codes.
  • Must possess 1 ICC Plan Review Certification or obtain within the first 6 months of hire and 1 additional ICC Plan Review Certification within the first year of hire
  • Must possess valid driver’s license

Part Time  Inspector 

Under general supervision from the Building Official, performs skilled inspection work to secure compliance with the city’s building, mechanical, energy, and plumbing codes and related regulations. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspects buildings in the process of construction, alteration, or repair for compliance with code requirements and for application of safe construction practices; stops construction until deficiencies are corrected
  • Interprets code requirements and answers questions from contractors, builders, architects, engineers, homeowners, and the public; assists and advises the general public in matters related to construction and code requirements
  • Prepares written reports and keeps records regarding inspections

Other Skills and Abilities 

  • Extensive knowledge of local plumbing, mechanical, building and electrical codes and current construction procedures and technology
  • Interpretation of codes in the field and ability to provide code compliant solutions
  • Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, government entities and other clientele
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills
  • Demonstrate ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgement

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have 2+ years’ experience as a code inspector under ICC guidelines
  • ICC Certifications in multiple disciplines
  • Must possess valid driver’s license
