Finance Director Job Description 

The City of Hardeeville, South Carolina is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic professional to serve as Finance Director for one of the region’s highest growth areas.  Hardeeville is in the heart of the Lowcountry and is strategically located between Savannah, GA and Hilton Head, SC and is one of the fastest-growing cities in SC for the past five years.  The City’s population is approximately 6,500 and is projected to increase to 28,000 or more by 2028.  The City of Hardeeville has an existing operating budget of nearly $15 million and a total City budget of approximately $46 million for FY20 and has received a GFOA award for CAFR for six years in a row.


This is a department head level position responsible for the day to day operations of the City Finance Department and direct supervision of department staff members.  Successful candidates should possess a balance of educational and professional experience in governmental accounting, financial analysis, grant administration, forecasting and budget preparation.  Experience in risk management, benefit administration, insurance administration and worker’s compensation is desirable.  This position reports directly to the City Manager.


Candidates should possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, public finance, public administration or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.  A Master’s degree and/or CPA is preferred.  Experience should include a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible financial administration with four (4) years in a supervisory capacity.  Governmental (Fund) accounting experience required.  A thorough understanding of GAAP, GASB and GFOA required.  A detailed job description is available online at the City’s website www.hardeevillesc.gov as well as the latest FY budgetary audit.
